Northern Exposure: The Silent Partner Tours Canada

PAI’s latest documentary, The Silent Partner: HIV in Marriage, made its debut in Canada last month in a fast-paced, three-city tour organized by Action Canada for Population and Development (ACPD) and co-sponsored by a half dozen national HIV/AIDS organizations.  During each screening event, it was clear that the messages of The Silent Partner – harmful social norms, male involvement, sexual and gender-based violence, economic empowerment, HIV prevention for couples – resonated strongly with audiences, particularly among local public health officials and members of the large and diverse African and Caribbean Diaspora living in Canada.

Ethiopia Celebrates First Earth Day!

Karen Hardee, V.P for Research, traveled to Ethiopia to participate in Ethiopia’s first celebration of Earth Day.  Karen had the opportunity to discuss population and climate change with Ethiopia’s President Giorgis W/Girma in a panel on the environment and to respond to the assertion of Dr. Strike Mkandla, head of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, that “Africa is under populated.”  She also had the pleasure of meeting young people interested in agricultural practices, environmental conservation and family planning at a population, health and environment (PHE) project supported by the Packard Foundation.
